My first marathon journey

As a little girl, I used to read about and stare at all the sports figures in the local newspaper, The Statesman, The Telegraph or the magazines we got at home. I admired every one of the athletes. I took to all the sports that was available in my school Kendriya Vidyalaya, including hockey and soccer, which girls did not generally play! The Pink Chaddi Campaign!

Pramod Muthalik and his crack-pot brigade of Ram Sena group assaulted women at a pub in Mangalore, India recently.  The group objects to women drinking alcohol, dressing in western clothes or spending time with male friends and so on. Surprisingly, they do not have any objections to the men doing the same. They believe that it is their moral responsibility to keep women from transgressing, much like what we see and hear of in the Arab world. Tidepools at the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve

On Saturday, 09 February 2009, there is a massive negative low tide between 1PM and 5PM along the North California coast. This happens several times in a year but rarely during the day. So, this combination of weekend and daytime massive low tide is quite unique.

The Fitzgerald Marine Reserve located at Moss Beach, about 10 miles north of Half Moon Bay, along the picturesque Highway 1 in California, is an excellent place to watch sea creatures in their natural habitat  during the low tide. Bone Marrow Drive for Arya being planned….

One of my dear friend’s son was diagnosed with cancer, a few days before his 8th birthday in 2006.  I had run the Nike Women’s Marathon in October 2007, in honour of Arya, the determined and adorable boy, I have known. My page from 2007 with  The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, when I did the fund raising, can be found here.  Arya was responding well and in remission.

Unfortunately, in the beginning of the 2009, Arya was taken unwell again. The only option left for him is a bone marrow transplant. Finding a match is hard BUT possible. Currently 3 in …
