On Saturday, 09 February 2009, there is a massive negative low tide between 1PM and 5PM along the North California coast. This happens several times in a year but rarely during the day. So, this combination of weekend and daytime massive low tide is quite unique.
The Fitzgerald Marine Reserve located at Moss Beach, about 10 miles north of Half Moon Bay, along the picturesque Highway 1 in California, is an excellent place to watch sea creatures in their natural habitat during the low tide. The Getty museum, atop a hill, looks majestic from the I405 freeway. Amit and I got to the Getty Museum in the evening on a Saturday. We took a tram to go to the top of the hill. The view from the top is spectacular, if you are lucky. Los Angeles can have very poor air quality. When I lived in Pasadena, it was sometimes impossible to see the Mt. My son and husband fancy the desert, while I prefer the mountains! We decided to retrace our path back to Joshua Tree National park, after a good 10 years, to the day, to discover a few more trails that we did not follow in December 1998. The memories of this otherworldly place were vivid but it was time to refresh them! This park located about 140 miles east of Los Angeles, in California, spans the Mojave and the Colorado (Sonoran) desert. Only a very small portion of this park is accessible by paved road.

The Rancho La Brea Tar Pits is located off the Wilshire Boulevard, in the heart of Los Angeles, California, United States. The park has a history of dramatic archeological discoveries in the early 1940’s. The fossils are beautifully presented in the Page Museum.
The Page Museum displays excavations from the La Brea Tar Pits, an accessible paleontological site. It is an exciting place for children and adults to visit and get a glimpse of what the area was like with the large mammoths, saber tooth cats, dire wolves among others.
